Children are encouraged to read their school reading book each night and we kindly ask parents to comment in their reading record to evidence this. We ask that reading records are brought into school each Friday to be checked by a member of staff. Children are encouraged to read a wide range of texts to develop their fluency and comprehension for example newspapers, comics, poetry, fiction and non-fiction.

The spellings for years 5 and 6 will be set each week, please see your homework allocation on SeeSaw. Children will have a week to learn their spellings, which will be supported via teaching in the classroom. Following this, the children will be tested in class each week on a Friday. The spellings for each term will remain on the page if children want to continue to practice them further at home.

This week we would like you to consolidate your learning of using formal methods of addition and subtraction to calculate.

1. At the beginning of the year I had £2452 in my account. In January I added £263 and in February I added £2806. How much did I have altogether?

2. I travelled from 943miles from London to Paris, 1461miles from Paris to Rome and 1186miles from Rome back to London. How many miles did I travel in total?

3. A reservoir contains 2348 litres of water. In the summer, 458 litres evaporate. It then collects 1409 litres of rain. How full is the reservoir in litres?

4. Tom adds three numbers together and gets a total of 84,526. Two of his numbers are 963 and 26,301. What is his thurd number?

5. I am thinking of two numbers with a diference of 4352. One of the numbers is 10,456. What could the other number be? Can you find two solutions?

1. A ship arrived in the port carrying 49657 tonnes of cargo. 3598 tonnes of cargo were unloaded. The ship was then loaded with 35861 tonnes before leaving the port. How much cargo was on the ship?

2. The organisers of a concert raise £154,763 in ticket sales and 314,763 selling merchandise. They have to pay the groups £43,650 and pay other expenses of £25,715. Hw much profit do they make?

3. The population of three towns was 346,826 , 124,526 and 74,821. What is the total population?

4. A car dealer checks his stock of cars. He has 6 cars for sale. The prices of the cars are: £5000, £6700, £8400, £11,450, £13,450 and £14,400. He sells two cars and the total value of his stock is now £40,000. What is the value of each of the two cars he sold?
